NEWBORN SESSIONS
When should I book my newborn session?
Ideally your newborn session is booked while you’re still pregnant. I book you in according to your due date and when baby arrives, we schedule your session in for a date and time that works for both of us.
What age is best for newborn photos?
Newborn sessions are best done when baby is around 1-2 weeks of age. While they definitely can be done later than this, babies tend to be more awake and alert and are a little less curly
What if my baby won't sleep?
Not all babies are sleepy for their session and that is completely ok. I have been working with newborns for over 10 years and have lots of tips and tricks up my sleeve to help your babe be calm, content and settled. We take sessions at your babies pace, if they need a feed, they feed. If they need a cuddle, then they are held. All newborn sessions are baby led.
Can siblings be included?
ABSOLUTELY! All newborn sessions (except for Mini Newborn Sessions) include all the immediate family, parents and siblings are essential!
Worried about how the older kids behave or how they will have the patience? Don’t be! I don’t need a cooperative toddler or a compliant bigger kid, I just need moments where they show some interest in the babe and I take advantage of that. I don’t force anything! I also have toys and chocolates on hand in the studio.Do you provide wraps and props?
I have wraps of all colours, patterns and textures on hand in the studio and available for use. Personally, I don’t use props, but everything else you need for babe will be supplied.What should parents wear?
When you book with Three Wishes Photography I provide detailed information about how to prepare and what to expect from your newborn session. Included in that are suggestions around what to wear and what to dress the kids in.
I have a client wardrobe for mum to access with beautiful flowy dresses that photograph beautifully and fit a bump.How long does a newborn session take?
Generally newborn sessions last around 1.5-2hrs. Sometimes more, sometimes less. It really depends how often baby needs to feed and how many cuddles they need.Is newborn photography safe?
Newborn safety is my number one priority. I work in a baby led way, learning how baby naturally likes to position itself and I don’t use positions or poses that are dangerous or uncomfortable to babe.
FAMILY SESSIONS
What should we wear?
When you book your Family Session with Three Wishes Photography you will get information sent to you with some guidance in what to dress everyone in and what to avoid. I am always available to talk through your options with you before your session and help however I can. I have a client wardrobe available to the mum’s with my beautiful gowns if this is something they want to utilise
What if my children don't cooperate?
Oh my goodness please don’t worry about this! I have never met a kid I haven’t been able to win over. I make the sessions fun. We play games, we have tickles, I make silly jokes and I force nothing. I encourage you to play with your kids as you would at home and I capture you all exactly as you are. Because it’s fun, the kids are cooperating without even realising.
Do you recommend any locations?
Yes! While you are always more than welcome to choose a location of your own, especially if it is your place or somewhere that means something to you as a family, I have a location guide that will be emailed out to you prior to your session. The location guide includes information and photos about my favorite locations to photograph, giving the opportunity to pick somewhere that has been tried and tested many times and takes the pressure off you to come up with somewhere yourself.
What happens if it rains?
We reschedule. No questions asked, without a doubt. We want to avoid rain, and too much wind. The session will be reschedule for a date and time that works for all of us.
Can we bring our dog?
Please do! I have a furr baby and she is as much a part of our family as anyone else. If you want your pooch included in your session I am very happy to accomodate.
When is the best time of day?
Ok, so this is a tricky one. For outdoor on location sessions, the absolute best time of day to photograph is either the hour after sunrise, or the hour prior to sunset, with my absolute fave being sunset. In Winter, this is very user friendly, but over Summer it can make for a super late start time when you have little kids.
The reason? When the sun is low and close to the horizon it is far softer than at other times of the day. It is much more flattering, avoids harsh shadows and avoids squinting into the sun. Another plus? If you pick for the end of the day you are far more likely to get beautiful, golden sun in the background
This is not a hard and fast rule, it’s not essential and I can definitely be flexible, but I like to give families all the info they need to make an informed choice.
MATERNITY PHOTOS
When should maternity photos be taken?
I generally recommend between 34-36 weeks. That way your bump is beautiful and round but we avoid shooting at a time when you feel uncomfortable, are puffy or bubs arriving early.
What should I wear?
When you book I send you an information guide including my suggestions around what to wear for your session. I also have an amazing client wardrobe especially for the mum’s to be that accommodates and accentuates your bump beautifully and that I know photographs amazingly. Let’s face it, you don’t want to be spending a lot of money on a dress to fit your bump when you’re only going to wear it a couple of times do you!
Can my partner and children be included?
Absolutely! This is definitely a family affair and all immediate family are encouraged to be involved.
Where are sessions held?
Maternity sessions can either occur in my home studio, or on location. If you opt for location I will send you a location guide outlining my favorite locations to photograph at that you can select from.
How long does a session last?
These sessions last for 30mins and I find that this is all you need to capture this time beautifully.
